Robert Sylvester, a native of N.Y.C. has had extensive experience as an administrator, academician, internationally acclaimed cellist and recording artist. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he became Professor at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, Dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Washington University and Dean at PSU in Portland, Oregon.
Deeply engaged in civic and community activities as the Chair of the Cultural District of Portland and serving on boards of the Oregon Symphony and Portland Center Stage, he also founded the Chamber Music at the Guggenheim series in N.Y.C. and the Bellingham Festival of Music. While at PSU, he created and taught courses on the history of caricature.
He and his wife, Jane, who has been his partner in his many roles these past 47 years, have a son and family living within a mile of their Madison Park home.
They are Block Watch enthusiasts, hoping to strengthen the Madison Park community.
