Bush School Blood Drive Donation Day 2018

Once again, I would like to invite you to share a special gift, your blood.

Many of you may have received a request from Bloodworks Northwest to donate blood after the tragic Amtrak train derailment on December 19. Bloodworks Northwest delivered blood to all of the hospitals that received the many seriously injured patients, as well as kept up with our local area hospital needs.

If you donated during that special time, a big “Thank You”! For those of you who were unable to donate at that time, here is your opportunity! This is a perfect time for those who are able to donate, to stop by the Bush School Community Room on Friday, January 19th from  8:30 AM – 2:15 PM.

For over 70 years Bloodworks NW (formerly Puget Sound Blood Center) been serving our community and supplied the blood used in the 70+ regional hospitals we serve. BWNW is a non-profit, independent, volunteer-supported and community-based blood center, providing services throughout western Washington.

BWNW is the chosen provider of blood components for local hospitals including:

· Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
· University of Washington Medical Center
· Harborview Medical Center
· Swedish Medical Center
· EvergreenHealth Medical Center
· Overlake Hospital Medical Center

Holiday Ship Parade 2017

Come join the Madison Park Community Council for our annual Christmas Ships & Holiday Celebration!

We will have refreshments, a bonfire, Santa, music and more. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

This year’s event will be Tuesday, December 19th.  Ships will arrive at 8:45 PM.

2017 Montlake Turkey Trot

Fall weather is here and the Montlake Community Club‘s 5K Turkey Trot and Kids Run is a week away. This year the Thanksgiving morning course will allow Turkey Trotters a sneak preview of the new Arboretum Loop Trail which is scheduled to officially open in March. There’s still time to register and represent scouts as a team! All proceeds benefit the University District Food Bank.

This multi-use trail opens up previously inaccessible parts of the Arboretum and allows a close-up view of the newly restored Arboretum creek and wetlands. Last year, the Montlake Turkey Trot was the 1st running race ever to take place in the Arboretum and now we will be the first to use the new trail! Don’t delay – sign up now and join us!

Micro-Community Policing Plans

From Susan Nembhard, the research assistant with Seattle University working with Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct regarding the Micro-Community Policing Plans.
“As of today, our annual Public Safety Survey is open. Please see the below information and let me know if you have any questions.
Seattle University is administering the 3rd annual citywide Seattle Public Safety Survey. The purpose of the survey is to solicit feedback on public safety and security concerns from those who live and/or work in Seattle. A report on the survey results will be provided to the Seattle Police Department to assist them in making your neighborhood safer and more secure.
The survey is accessible from October 15th through November 30th and is available in Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, English, Korean, Oromo, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrinya and Vietnamese. Please circulate this information to your friends, family, co-workers and community members and feel free to post the information on your social media. Public safety and security are community concerns. Please make sure your voice is heard by completing the public safety survey today.”

Support The McGilvra Run-a-thon

The Bert’s Red Apple McGilvra Run-a-Thon 2017 is an all-school, student-driven fundraising event to help support vital McGilvra students, teachers and programs. This year’s theme is about the superhero powers of our local students to make a difference – our Kids’ Action and the Power of the Wildcats = KAPOW!

Students seek pledges from our community to support our public school and recognize their superpowers running/walking as many laps as they can around the McGilvra Playfield on Wednesday, October 11.  K-2nd grade run 9:15-10:15 and 3rd-5th run 10:30-11:30.  Parents, teachers and friends are invited to join us at the Run-a-Thon to cheer our student heroes on.  Even better – sign up to volunteer!
